What is Banana Shikran?
Banana Shikran belongs to the Maharashtrian cuisine and is a very easy recipe which can be prepared by kids too. This banana snack is an instant 3-ingredient recipe which comes as a lifesaver when you are very hungry needing a quick fix or some unexpected guests arrive to surprise you.
It is an instant energy booster and hence shikran can also be eaten when you are fasting. It is also one of the best baby food recipes. Great way to include the healthy banana.
Banana Shikran is a sweet dessert that can be prepared in a jiffy. This quick banana recipe is one of the healthy snacks for kids. Traditionally, banana shikran is prepared by slicing the bananas. However, there’s a twist here to my shikran story. I am using mashed bananas instead of sliced ones.
Adding mashed bananas gives a nice delectable taste as the banana flavour blends with the milk. You can also make a fusion of both the methods. Slice half of the bananas, mash the remaining and then add them to milk.
Banana Shikran can be served as a mid-meal to toddlers and hungry teenagers. This is a very healthy dessert and convenient to prepare for busy mothers. Also, a good way to make kids eat bananas and milk.
It pairs well with chapati or it can be eaten on its own as a dessert. This is a kind of no-cook simple banana recipe as it is just about mixing the ingredients. All that you require is boiled and cooled milk, bananas and sugar.
So do try out this easy banana recipe that is not only healthy but yummy too!
Some Tips
- Bananas should be slightly overripe, but not much, as they are more sweeter.
- Boil and cool the milk completely before preparing shikran.
- Refrigerate banana shikran slightly, before serving. Tastes best when chilled. This is just a serving suggestion and is purely optional.
- This snack using banana should be consumed within 1-2 hours of preparing, else the bananas will become brown in colour.
- Preferably use full-cream milk for thick and creamy shikran.
